Helping to build our community

It’s important to give back

Both Jim and Debbie Kitchin, owners of InterWorks, are deeply involved in the Portland, Oregon community and industry groups—serving on boards, helping with important projects, volunteering, and contributing to local services and organizations. They know it’s important to contribute their time and resources where they can make a difference.

Jim Kitchin contributes industry knowledge and leadership

Jim contributes the knowledge earned from years as a commercial remodeling contractor and home remodeler to industry groups. He serves as the Chair of the Construction Contractors Board, the statewide agency that supervises and regulates the construction industry. He has also served on the Board of Directors of NARI Northwest, (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) including two years as President.  He is currently on the national committee that sets certification standards for the home remodeling industry. Jim has also served for 20 years as a volunteer with the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol.

Debbie Kitchin is recognized by many Portland organizations

Since 2004, Debbie has served on the Board of Directors of the Energy Trust of Oregon. She has also served on many other boards including Greater Portland Inc, Central Eastside Industrial Council, Portland Business Alliance, Commercial Real Estate Women Portland, and Building Owners and Managers Oregon.

For her ongoing commitment she was honored in 2017 by the Portland Business Alliance with the prestigious William S. Naito Outstanding Service Award. This annual award was created to showcase how business, community and philanthropy come together to serve the Portland region.

Contributions and service to local non-profits, too

ReFIT is a non-profit carrying out vital home conversions at no cost to veterans and people with disabilities, to help them stay in their homes. Jim serves on the Board of Directors and InterWorks has contributed home remodeling services to a number of ReFIT projects.

For many years, InterWorks has supported Playworks PNW by sending a team to the Corporate Kickball Tournament, in addition to supporting the program at other events.

Members of the InterWorks management team have also participated in youth employment fairs, mock interviews and other career and workforce development programs for high school students.
