To work amongst the trees is the highest honor, and at this community-based project we paid our respects to the land around us. Our mantra for this endeavor was, first and foremost, “do no harm”. No trees were removed, roots were protected with wood chip barriers, and the construction area was contained with fencing. We mindfully built only where the pre-existing structure stood, and we removed invasive species from the area. With sustainability as a driving effort, we sourced local, renewable products, reused timbers and roof framing materials from the previous pavilion, and we redirected the storm drains to hydrate the surrounding forest. Metal roofing and fireproof cedar siding contribute to the Grade A eco-conscious fire-rated system.
